As the daughter of a distinguished floral designer and avid photographer, Suzanne Lewis grew up around artistry and nature.  At an early age Mr. Lewis encouraged his daughter to be sensitive to and observant of the beauty around her.  On family trips to California, flowers and the dramatic landscape were photographed and coveted by the fourth generation landlocked Texan.  Born and raised in Austin, Suzanne began her photographic career while in art school at the University of Texas.  Her major was studio art with an emphasis in commercial art.  She was required to take photography and was fortunate to study with Garry Winogrand.  She graduated with a BFA in studio art, moved to Dallas and pursued a career in advertising as a graphic designer and ad agency art director.

In 1983 Suzanne moved to California working for BBDO Los Angeles producing print and national T.V. commercials.  Part of her responsibility as an art director was hiring photographers to execute the ads which she conceptualized.  Eventually, she  realized that she could do the job and started photographing her own print campaigns for national clients such as Coldwell Banker.  In 1986, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and worked as a freelance location photographer, accepting assignments from clients like American Airlines which took her around the world.  Her background in design and art direction has played an instrumental role in her photography, particularly travel and fine art photography, where she quickly captures the essence of a place through color and/or light.

Suzanne’s favorite photographic locations are Santa Fe, Utah, Northern California and the South of France.  Capturing natural light with a graphic style is her forte.
